Andover Drops First Road Game
Andover traveled to Easthampton, Massachusetts to take on Williston Northampton School for its first road game of the season. Williston jumped out to an early 0-14 lead, but Andover answered towards the end of the 1st quarter when Michael Vallarelli ’27 made an impressive one-handed catch in tight coverage, taking Landon Husereau’s’ ’28 pass 77 yards for the touchdown (PAT Quentin Nicolasien ’27). Williston answered with two more scores before Husereau found Will Mascena ’27 for a 49-yard touchdown pass (PAT Quentin Nicolasien ’27), narrowing the score to 14-29. Williston added another touchdown just before the end of the 2nd quarter, bringing the halftime score to 14-36. Andover’s defense created its first turnover of the game when Mike Despres ’29 deflected a pass that was then picked off and returned 32 yards by Will Corbin ’27. Andover’s offense could not capitalize on this turnover and ultimately turned the ball over on downs. Williston added another touchdown, but Mike Despres ’29 blocked the point-after try, bringing the score to 14-42. On the ensuing drive, after once again finding Michael Vallareilli ’27 for a long completion, Landon Husereau ’28 found the end zone on a 3-yard scramble (PAT Quentin Nicolasien ’27), tightening the score to 21-42. The next series continued the momentum for Andover, cutting the Williston lead to just two scores. The Andover defense stiffened and forced a Williston punt deep in its own territory. Sebastien Cernovitch ’28 blocked the punt and Caden Schrock ’27 deftly caught the deflection in the end zone for a touchdown (PAT Quentin Nicolasien ’27). Andover’s kickoff team could not corral the ensuing onside kick attempt, and Williston took advantage of good field position to add one more touchdown, bringing the final score to 28-48.
