Deerfield Outlasts Andover
Both teams struggled to move the ball on the day, but several key 3rd- and 4th-down conversions and field position proved to be the deciding factors in the contest. An interception by Nathaniel McCormick ’27 set up Andover’s offense with great field position in the first quarter, and Jun An ’27 got Big Blue on the board with a 3-yard touchdown run (PAT Quentin Nicolasien ‘27). Deerfield equaled the score, then added another touchdown late in the 2nd quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead. The Big Blue offense got on the board again when Cale Barker ’28 found Ollie Velez ’26 down the sideline for 73-yard touchdown pass. Velez later picked off a Deerfield pass, setting up another long drive for the offense. The drive eventually stalled, but Quentin Nicolasien ’27 booted a 32-yard field goal for a 17-14 Big Blue lead going into the 4th quarter. After several defensive stops by both teams, Deerfield put together a long, touchdown-scoring drive that not only gave them the lead but also left Andover only seconds to drive the field for more points.
