Andover Wins 3rd Consecutive Eastern Championship

LANCASTER, PA – Across the 90-year history of the prestigious Eastern Swimming & Diving Championship meet, no team had ever before amassed more than 700 points. In order to secure its 3^rd-consecutive championship, and needing to hold off an excellent team from Mercersburg Academy, Andover ended up securing 708.5 points for the win. This was a true team effort, marked by outstanding performances, by a range of new records, and by great camaraderie.

The team competition was among the closest in memory. In the final event of the first day, with Andover leading by only a half point, the 200 Free Relay of Oliver Stabach ’26, Jay Wei ’27, Pippin Kantakom ’25, and Oliver Feng ’25 set a new School Record of 1:22.22 in order to secure 2^nd-place and a valuable two more points over Mercersburg. At the end of the first day, Andover led 381.5 to 379.

Despite terrific Andover performances, on the second day, Mercersburg took the team lead in the 100 Freestyle and expanded it in 500 Freestyle and then the 100 Backstroke. With only two events remaining, Mercersburg led Andover 572 to 562.5.

As it has during each of the past decade of Eastern Championships, Andover had an extraordinary performance in the 100 Breaststroke. In the consolation final, Ethan Zhu ’26 placed 15^th, securing 12 points. In the final, Ben Zhou ’25, racing the breastroke for only the second time in his Andover career, placed 8^th for 22 points; Captain Daniel Seong ’25 swam faster than what had been the New England Record just one day before in order to place 4^th for 26 points; and Pippin Kantakom ’25, who had been the first New England swimmer to ever swim under :55 in the 100 Breaststroke during the morning preliminaries, then became the only New England swimmer to ever be under :54. With a new New England and School Record, Pippin placed 1^st and secured 32 points. At the end of the Breaststroke, Andover led Mercersburg 654.5 to 639, and secured the win during the final event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay.
