Andover Boys move to 6-1 and taking a tough loss against undefeated Groton

In a battle of undefeated teams, and a match that saw 6 tie-breakers in singles play (4 of them third set super tie-breakers), the Andover Boys team took a tough home loss to Groton.

The afternoon started with Andover winning only one of the three doubles matches, with Eddie Wang ‘24 and Jeremy Liao ‘25 pulling off an 8-4 victory at #2. Groton’s secured the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 doubles.

In singles, Kevin Niu ‘25 gave Andover its first point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #6 singles, but Groton quickly answered with a win at #5. Down 1-2, Andover’s hopes came down to the remaining 4 singles matches that each went three sets and saw a total of six tie-breakers played across these matches, with Andover only able to win one breaker, with Ethan Wong ‘23 winning at #1 with a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (3) victory.

With its first loss of the season, the Boys A team will look to rebound against Exeter on Wednesday and improve on its 6-1 record.
