The girls’ JV1 soccer team defeated rival Exeter by a score of 1-0, to end the season with an 11-1-1 record.
The Andover-Exeter game is always exciting, but today, the team gave the huge group of fans who traveled to see them something to cheer about. Playing at Exeter can be intimidating, but today with the sun shining, the soccer pitch felt like home. This team of 20 players, 2 managers, and 2 coaches, was ready for the end of season show down. The players started off almost too excited, and it took until after the 40 minute scoreless first half to settle in. Ten minutes into the second half, when the team was moving the ball well and the crisp two touch passing began to pick apart the Exeter defense, the lone goal of the game was tallied. Emily Kelly '22 dribbled up through the midfield but was striped of the ball near the Exeter 18 yard box. The ball bounced out to the right wing, where Sonia Marnoto '22 was waiting, and she lofted the ball over the keeper and into the net. The excitement on the pitch, on the sidelines, and in the stands was amazing. Andover goalkeeper Caroline Rothmann played an excellent game and put up another clean sheet. We can't thank the friends, families, and fans enough for coming out to support the team today, as they have all season. Andover held off Exeter for the remainder of the half and the final scoreboard proclaimed the 1-0 Big Blue victory. Congratulations to all the members of the team for contributing to the 11-1-1 season!
