At home on December 5, 2018 at 3:30 PM
Co-captains Pablo Sanchez '19 and Eamon Garrity-Rokous '20 picked up wins but the Blue fell just short of a strong St. Paul's team in the season opener.
Jack O’Niell ’19 won a thrilling come-from-behind match at 145 pounds and co-captains Eamon Garrity-Rokous ’19 and Pablo Sanchez ’19 started the season off with wins, but it was not enough as the Big Blue were edged by St. Paul’s School in their season opener at home, 42-35. O’Niel trailed 4-1 entering the third period before pulling of the stunning pin. Garrity-Rokous was dominant with a second-period pin at 170 pounds, and Sanchez topped a quality opponent at 195 pounds, 4-3. Post-graduate Vincent Marino put on a clinic while winning by technical fall, 16-0, at 132 pounds. Riggs McGrath ’21 won a hard-fought 12-5 decision at 160, and Calvin Yang ’21 won the first match of his career with a pin at heavyweight. Matteo Ellerman ’21 and Gordon Paiva ’20 picked up wins in exhibition matches. The Blue now prepare for the “Battle of the Andovers,” a home quad meet this Saturday, taking on Brooks School, Andover High School, and North Andover High School. Wrestling begin at 3pm.
