Forty athletes compete in Girls Tournament

Marisol Nugent '20 was dominant in pinning all three foes to win her second straight title at the Phillips Academy Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Forty athletes representing 23 different high schools from across New England competed in the 5th annual Phillips Academy Girls Wrestling Tournament held in Andover on Sunday, January 28th. Marisol Nugent ’20 was dominant in pinning all three of her foes in the first period to win the title in the 128-pound weight class. It was Nugent’s second title at the event, as she won it last year while competing for Masconomet High School. Arianna Phillips ’21 placed third, Ashleigh Cohan ’20 placed fourth, and Valerie Tang ’20 placed fifth for the Blue. Prior to the tournament, the athletes participated in a clinic conducted by Leigh Jaynes, a World Bronze medalist for Team USA.
The ten individual champions were Sophia Matthews, Woburn High School; Cara Nugent, The Governor’s Academy; Micailah Albertson, Morse High School; Marisol Nugent, Phillips Academy; Hannah Workman, Lincoln Academy; Bella Richiazzi, Framingham High School; Julia Livingston, St. Paul’s School; Rebecca Simpson, Milton High School; Liz Seero, Tabor Academy; Deja Douglas, Morse High School. Outstanding Wrestler: Hannah Workman.
