Wrestlers fourth at Interschols

The Big Blue wrestlers placed fourth of 13 teams at the Class A league Interschol tournament. Haroldo Nebeth and John O'Brien each won individual titles and Nesbeth was named Outstanding Wrestler of the meet.
The Phillips Academy wrestling team turned in a strong performance in placing 4th out of 13 teams at the Class A league tournament held at the Williston Northampton School on Saturday. Haroldo Nesbeth '17 and John O'Brien '17 led ten individual place-winners by winning their respective weight classes. Nesbeth pinned three foes to capture the title at 138 pounds and was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament by the coaches. O'Brien also won three bouts, including a pin in the heavyweight finals. Co-captain Pierce Bausano '17 placed second at 182 pounds. Connor Haugh '17 turned in an inspired performance. Competing at 170 pounds, Haugh was unseeded, but upset the #2 seed in the quarter finals, 11-10, then knocked off the #3 seed in the semi finals, 5-2, en route to second place. Fan favorite Martha Gao '17 earned third place at 113, winning her final match in overtime. Other top performances for the Blue included Adam Cohen '18 (4th at 220), Eamon Garrity-Rokous '20 (4th at 145), Pablo Sanchez '19 (5th at 195), Jack O'Niel '19 (6th at 132), and David Moon '17 (6th at 152). Phillips Exeter wrestled well in winning the team title. Eight Andover wrestlers have qualified to compete in the New England Prep tournament next weekend at the Hyde-Maine School. Those who place top six there qualify for the National Prep tournament the following weekend.
