Andover rode complete-game pitching performances from L.J. Keevan '21 and Jackson Emus '19 en route to a doubleheader sweep over visiting league rival Phillips Exeter, winning the first game 6-1 and the nightcap 1-0.
In the opener, KEEVAN (pictured) surrendered an unearned run in the opening frame and cruised from there, striking out five while walking none, setting Exeter down in order in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Andover’s offense broke through with a three-run flurry in the bottom of the third, highlighted by RBI singles from Andrew Ciufo ’19 and Emus and a sacrifice fly by Tristan Latham ’19. A pair of insurance tallies followed in the fourth, courtesy of a Jack Penney ’21 sacrifice fly and a wild pitch scoring Matt Sapienza ’21. Andover capped the scoring at 6-1 in the fifth when Latham doubled home Emus, who scored all the way from first base.
Emus was flat-out dominant on the mound in Game 2, fanning 10 while limiting Exeter to just one hit – a leadoff single in the top of the first. Andover’s lone run came in the bottom of the first courtesy of an Exeter defensive miscue, as Lucas Stowe ’20 drew a one-out walk, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, and scampered home on an errant throw.
