Anthony Redfern '18 earned a save in Game 1 and a complete-game pitching win in Game 2 as first-place Andover swept a league doubleheader against visiting Deerfield. Kai Marcos '18 plated the winning run with an RBI single in the nightcap.
Travis Lane '18 pitched five-plus strong innings in the opener, striking out 10 and scattering just five Deerfield hits before giving way to REDFERN (pictured). Jack Penney '21 and Lucas Stowe '20 singled home runs in the second and fifth innings, respectively. Jackson Emus '19 singled twice in the win.
Game 2 proved quite dramatic, as Andover carried a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning and appeared to have the win in hand, but with two outs in the final frame, Deerfield scored when the base umpire ruled that Redfern failed to touch the bag while covering first on a groundball to the right side, which would've been the final out of the game. Undaunted, Penny '21 singled in the bottom of the seventh, advanced on a Tristan Latham '19 walk, and scored the winning run on Marcos's line-drive single into the gap in left-center field.
Redfern was lights out on the mound, fanning 11, while surrendering just two Deerfield hits.
